Party Rock Anthem only it's played on kazoos

[Oscar is a practiced master at Coping (tm) in the face of things he would prefer not to address in any sort of healthy or rational manner. After the events of yesterday, he's somehow getting the feeling that he isn't the only one, which means that in his mind there is only one thing to do: this translates to yet another Walmart booze heist (even larger than the original), a few side trips to amass snacks because RIP his kitchen, and some haphazardly erected decorations in one of the spare rooms to try to at least give off something of a celebratory atmosphere... but let's be real here, this is just Misery x CPR x Reese's Puffs + alcohol.

Sunday morning will find handwritten notes tucked under everyone's doors inviting them to a party that evening, snacks and drinks (that particular word underlined a couple of times, just in case people didn't pick up on the meaning of "party") provided gratis.

There's alcohol, there's soda for the minors, there's plenty of junk food to eat, and there are a whole bunch of other people who are also Going Through It. What better recipe for a party could you ask for?

... don't answer that.]

How long do toa normally live??

[SO OLD....]

No wonder you have so much going on....

[fukuda hopefully immediately rethinking the whole matoran = child thing in about 5 seconds here ]

I honestly don't know if there is a limit for Toa. My predecessor was already in his position as a Toa when I first came to the city, and I don't know how long he had been there before then. I've only been one for around two years or so, if that.

The rest of my life, I was a Matoran... and I've known plenty in our city that are easily double or triple my age.

[He didn't think Matoran Vakama was a child he was just doing connections!!!]

That sounds exhausting.

If Raven is correct, and your kind only lives for a century... then I wouldn't blame you for thinking so.

It is just life, for us.
holeful: (me; I have all these fucking markers.)

[personal profile] holeful 2025-02-24 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
That's a slight overestimate. I think average life expectancy so somewhere around 70-80 years old depending on the country. The record for oldest person is somewhere around 120, but even making it to 100 is relatively uncommon.

...It seems an unfairly fragile amount of time to me.
holeful: (or do I just need to go to sleep?")

It's all a matter of perspective, I suppose. To me, living for thousands of years seems interminably long. Even the longest lived animals on Earth only live a couple hundred years.

You are all made up of quite a lot of organics...

Is it just... deterioration, that leads to that?
holeful: (Honestly when I'm walking down)

[personal profile] holeful 2025-02-28 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
Mm, for people who die of old age, pretty much it's that, yes.

[personal profile] crosswired 2025-02-28 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
Do humans not have ways to heal that sort of damage?

[Like, obviously there is a limit because /gestures at giant hole in his head that hasn't like healed over.]
holeful: (they don't even have to look at you)

[personal profile] holeful 2025-02-28 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, we can certainly heal from some damage! Humans can even recover from broken bones.

But I think at a certain point the body's ability to repair itself slows down, and things add up. I don't know exactly how it works, but that's my understanding.

[personal profile] crosswired 2025-02-28 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
Mm... so less a loss of ability, and maybe whatever sources that ability?

Matoran can do similarly with their organics, within limits. Even if those parts of a Matoran have to be replaced, that ability does not go away or change. Not unless something is very wrong with your body, at least.
holeful: (It’s kind of flattering in its own way)

[personal profile] holeful 2025-02-28 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that your people have both the healing ability of organic tissue and then the ability to replace the mechanical parts probably had to do with your long lifespan.
crosswired: (027)

[personal profile] crosswired 2025-02-28 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
I would believe as much, yes. So long as a Matoran is maintained, they tend to be fine.

It does not stop them telling stories to the people they dislike, threatening people to deserve to be in Karzahni for attitude or laziness. If one thinks of deteriorating to death for us... that would probably be the place, were it real.
holeful: (I don't look older I just look worse)

[personal profile] holeful 2025-02-28 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, so that's your equivalent of telling people you're mad at to go to hell!
crosswired: (007)

[personal profile] crosswired 2025-03-01 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ah--- go to what?

[spoilers: that is correct, good job fukuda, but also what is a "hell"]
holeful: (Honestly when I'm walking down)

[personal profile] holeful 2025-03-02 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Hell, it's where several religions say the wicked or sinful go when they die.
crosswired: (110)

[personal profile] crosswired 2025-03-02 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Ahh, okay.... no, that's not quite it for us...

Karzahni is said to be a place of punishment for those that are poor workers or a dangerous fit for society. somewhere where you are turned into something horrid and meant to learn the lessons you refused to when you had the chance.

It's just stories, though. [He swirls the drink in his glass, looking a little morose.] And those that die... they will stay dead, no matter if they are virtuous or wicked. There is nothing that remains for those that perish except their legacies.

[personal profile] holeful 2025-03-02 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, but either way, it's a place you tell people you hope they go if you're mad at them, right?
crosswired: (029)

[personal profile] crosswired 2025-03-02 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods.]

If you can't be bothered to think of better words, then yes. Many arguments dissolve into insults like that. Ah, with Matoran, at least.
