Between the mysteries of last weekend, the increasing number of visions and unexplained phenomena, and the attack on Vakama yesterday, everyone is likely on edge. When Tails calls you into his lab around noon, you all are likely already aware of how this is going to go.
Once again, a surge of Chaos Energy in the city is what draws you in, though this time it is a much larger burst than before. Sonic and Knuckles are here with you as usual, with Tails remaining behind to look after Vakama and the base. Unlike before, you aren't met with robots or destruction. In fact, this city block looks remarkably peaceful, aside from where Eggman's chroma has overtaken most of the buildings.
"So good of you all to finally arrive."
The voice comes from up above. You recognize it as the one you heard last week, through that gemstone the Tails Doll had. Perched on one of the buildings is a... fox? No, he's larger than Tails, and wearing a large silver mask that obscures most of his features. In one hand he holds Vakama's missing mask; his other is extended with six gemstones floating around it, a soft teal glow from beneath his black glove marking the seventh. There's a different gemstone on the center of his chest as well, though it doesn't look like the fake Chaos Emeralds you've seen before.
"You all have the pleasure of fighting me, Infinite. I am the Doctor's trusted ally... and I have been watching you all. Your struggles with my nightmares and illusions were so... delicious. You have my thanks for the show."
He kicks off the building, floating towards you all and the ground, though stopping high enough up, still out of reach. And for those of you getting any bright ideas, a deep red begins to fill your vision, tinting the corners of it as the very world itself begins to warp around you - this isn't exactly Chicago anymore, you see. The buildings still exist, wrapped in white chroma, though they bend and twist in ways they shouldn't, making it hard to tell what's real and what isn't.
"I'll snuff out your lives here and now for the Doctor's ambitions! Let's see what you're made of!"
[ there's another fleeting thought where wolfwood recognizes that there's something wrong with all of this, but when livio comes up to him—eyes bright—and tugs on his hand, wolfwood forgets why he should care. livio shouldn't—isn't a child anymore but he can't understand why he should care. and as livio laces his fingers between wolfwood's, he decides that there's no point in caring anymore. here his little, cry baby brother is safe.
"Let's play, Nico! It's been a while since you've been home."
...yeah. yeah! he should. it has been a long time since he has been home! and this time he has brought along a friend—a strange guy who has become so much closer to him than he could have ever imagined. what originally started off as an order to guide and protect evolved to a genuine desire to protect and save him. vash placing a hand on wolfwood's shoulder as he looks to him with one of those smiles that he liked. a smile that wasn't full of pain and let wolfwood know that he knew happiness and the joy of living.
and like that, he'll rise to his feet and walk towards his home. a place that he never thought that he would be able to see again. ]
[ Void Archives is here to ruin Wolfwood's happiness.
The blond sees all of this happening, and they are certain that the man is having the time of his life.
But, while Wolfwood is entirely distracted, enjoying himself, they don't say a single word, and it is purposeful. They shoot a beam of light that tears apart Vash, Livio, and the illusion (14) without even so much a kind apology. ]
[ oh boy is void archives here to ruin wolfwood's happiness—however fake it is. on some level, he should be thankful to them for destroying this dream so that they can both get back to dealing with the actual threat here. that's what the logical way to evaluate the situation, but there's nothing logical about what wolfwood is currently feeling as he watches the two of them get blasted by a beam of light and is forcibly ripped free from the illusion.
every logical, rational, and pragmatic thought that wolfwood could have in his mind as he revaluates the situation is replaced by one that's fuels by pure vitriol and rare emotion. wolfwood's well aware of how sturdy void archives after various encounters but it doesn't stop him from throwing a punch ( 14 ) to hit them in the jaw. wolfwood has rarely thanked them for anything and he absolutely will not now.
maybe the last thing they need to do is be in-fighting but those are literally the two people who are most important to him in every universe and every world. ]
[should i just sit back and let you two duke it out... nah.
Anyway, Wolfwood finds himself back in this twisted version of Chicago. Aside from Void Archives, the others are fighting with their own illusions, and Wolfwood's certainly is still here too. Vash is here - warped by Wolfwood's nightmares in whatever way you see fit.
He wastes no time - he blatantly ignores Void Archives in favor of trying to shoot at Wolfwood.]
[ given how void archives literally took the punch to the face and walked off, probably best to not....
but, for real this time, can wolfwood be spared the possibility of killing vash? this is doing something to the already overwhelming amount of guilt that he carries within him because of everything that he has done. though, maybe this twisted vash (soft spoilers in link) that hardly resembles the man he knows will help? (spoilers, it won't.)
either way, he'll be able to dodge (somehow) vash shooting at him and whip out his own gun and take a few shots ( 16 ) at him—arm, leg, shoulder—nowhere lethal but places to disable. not helpful when someone is out to kill you but... perhaps this is also the reason why wolfwood hasn't actively participated in the battles thus far as well? ]
[The shots do succeed in incapacitating him, catching his arm hard (9). He doesn't drop the gun, but does shift it over to the other arm, once again aiming another shot at Wolfwood.]
[ wolfwood hates this. he hates this more than anything. fortunately, he'll be able to move out of the way of this vash's gunfire and counters to shoot the gun out of his hands, literally, aiming for the elbow joint ( 11 ). no doubt that the shakiness of the shot coming from the fact that he doesn't want to be doing this. there's irony in how wolfwood's actions now don't reflect the words he had once said or even by the standards that he claimed to live his life by.
but who is wolfwood but a hypocrite? ]
Can't ya just quit one of these times for me?
[ lord knows that when they finally fighting the "person" who is responsible for all of this, there will be a crowd of people who will be itching to rip their face off. ]
[It hits, and Vash drops the gun. It would seem that he's been disarmed and thus incapable of anything else. But instead, he raises his other hand - the first one injured - and fires off a beam of onyx energy, because he can still do that and you are not getting out of this fight that easily, Wolfwood.]
[ WHY CAN'T HE? HE'S TRYING TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH VASH'S IDEALS FOR ONCE!!!
but that's not really possible in this situation, is it? wolfwood would rather not have to give in so soon but—them's the breaks. he'll manage to dodge (again i have no idea how this is working) the beam of onyx energy ( 10 ) but just barely. once again, hatefully, wolfwood will take aim at vash and points it dead center to his head.
how many times has he pointed his gun at vash's head? how many times has he threatened to shoot him? to seriously hurt him? probably more times than he can count but not too many times that he couldn't count.
the more important question, though, is how many times has he been able to follow through? well, guess the answer to that will be one as he pulls the trigger. (even if this is just a twisted replica and horrible imitation of vash, it doesn't mean that wolfwood won't pray for forgiveness for his actions.) ]
[There isn't any dodging. The illusionary Vash tries to reform himself, but the damage is simply too great. He flickers into and out of form until the red glitchiness finally takes him, floating upwards and dissipating entirely.]
[ Well, Void Archives knew the risk in taking their action.
So, perhaps that is the reason that they don't bother to dodge. The fist hits them full on in the jaw and they go without a semblance of gratitude.
They rub at where they were hit with a little bit of an amused smile.
...Well, if Wolfwood hates them now, they can't help that. Better them than anyone else, right? But, they don't say anything; they're not in the mood for any in-fighting, and he will not be getting much else out of them before they move to walk off. Is that better, though? ]
