Sometime in the morning on Sunday, there are little notes that have been slipped under everyone's doors. Written in markers reads the following:

Let's celebrate getting Knuckles back at Olive Garden tonight at 6pm!!!!

…Yeah………but hey, at least these notes will be customized! Each note has two characters, but, uh, these might not be accurate to who's actually in the room. He doesn't know who everyone's roommates are, so he's just hoping for the best I guess. (Someone's note includes the new guy, More. Shizuka is also on one of these as a pink dolphin with glasses.)

Anyway, the Olive Garden seems to have some balloons floating around. With the current state of the residents, nobody seems to care! There are also chefs in the kitchen who will make whatever you ask, but pushing them around enough will get them to leave the kitchen to anyone who wants to make something. (Thank you Redd.) Drinks are available for everyone, alcohol and regular soft drinks alike, and really? The world is your oyster. … Olive? You get the drill.

I don't know. I really don't have anything to compare it to. Friendship, perhaps. Teammates. Even just... being proud of our kind. But I don't know where something like a "family" fits in to all of that.

Hmm... You don't have anything like parents to help raise you, or...siblings to grow up alongside?

I don't know what a sibling is, but I did have a parent explained to me, as well as a child. We don't have either of those. The... idea of having young is something that an animal does, not Matoran.

My memory gets a little hazy thinking too far back, but... all I had was just the other Ta-Matoran I worked with, and whoever from the other districts came to collaborate with us. Friends, or professional relationships.

Wow... That's so wild. A sibling is like...someone else who was raised with you, like- children from the same parents. Did you feel like that about any of your other...Ta-Matorans? Like...a close bond?

Not exactly. It was more... mmm.... a source of identity, or a pride in our place in society, than it really was a bond for friendships. Not unless you were the type to search those sorts of things out.

I knew a few, but... I tended to focus on my work.

That's right... We use it as a title, not an identity, really. Even that depends on the Toa.

Ah, maybe an example... Nokama and Matau, two of my teammates - they both use it the most. But Nokama used to be a teacher, so she always tends to keep things professional and reverent between everyone. Matau, though... he just tends to enjoy the status the title brings.

No, no, I'd say you're on the right track. Some of my teammates still choose to call me by my previous profession before they would ever call me "Brother". [So more of an intimacy thing rather than a hard rule.]

When I was a Matoran, it wasn't common at all unless someone was feeling cocky or playing pretend, or maybe trying to raise morale. For Toa, it is more expected.

To put it simply... Matoran are the common people, while Toa are their protectors.
