WEEK 2

Now that Tails has spoken with you about your mission, the state of the world, and the threat you're facing, you're free to settle in to life here. While the warehouse isn't exactly the most thrilling place to set up a base, it's clean and well-maintained (despite the only one here being a kid fox?) and Tails encourages you to make it your own as best you can. You're going to be here for awhile, after all. This world needs to be saved, and you're the ones to do it.

The warehouse is thankfully quite large, so there's plenty of space. Aside from the ground floor containing Tails' workshop, there's a room for Tails, Knuckles, and Sonic, as well as your rooms. There's a large bathroom and several nice showers - this time with actual hot water! Though it may not be fancy, it's certainly acceptable accommodations for your time here. Exploring further through the warehouse reveals that there's an upper floor, with several other rooms that have already been furnished for varying purposes; after all, it seems your friendly neighborhood talking animals have been living here for quite a bit themselves.

But outside the walls of the warehouse are where things get particularly dismal. Though life goes on in the city of Chicago, it's without any sort of passion or thought at all. The humans go about their day-to-day lives in monotony, acting as though nothing is wrong or out of the ordinary. They don't acknowledge you, even if you try to talk to them. They don't recognize you as weird, even if you aren't human (or a talking animal). They simply move about, drone-like, heedless of the robots that patrol the streets.

Eggman's robots are high-tech, white chrome and smooth; these are almost a work of art as they are technology. They all come equipped with laser beams regardless of the shape or size of them, and they all seem to be set on keeping an eye on the people. There are robots watching everywhere. You can't turn a street corner without seeing one or two, and they follow pre-determined surveillance paths as they watch over the humans.

Lingering in the distance, you can see a massive robot that takes up the horizon. That seems to be Eggman's base of operations, at least as far as Tails has been able to determine. Though it poses no threat to you right now, it's a looming reminder of what awaits you.

Welcome to Eggman's utopia.

THE BASE

Though he's apologized for the base not being particularly lively, Tails has promised you the freedom to make the place your own. He's even directed you to a "crafts room" if you'd like to decorate! This art studio is surprisingly robust for something put together in an abandoned, worn-down warehouse on the outskirts of the city. You'll find plenty of markers in every color you can think of, sketchbooks and paper and papercrafts, string and glue and everything you could need for your second grade arts and crafts project. Though it may all be a little kiddy, it's here for you to do with as you wish.

The crafts room isn't the only odd one on the upper floors, you'll also find a gymnasium. It's more of a home gym than anything else, with only a couple of beat-up old treadmills, a few exercise bikes, and some weight lifting stations, as well as plenty of weights. It's not exactly the best room in the base, but it's here if you'd like to make use of it.

Next door is an open room with several soft mats - an open room for sparring and training. This one doesn't really have much in it, but you're welcome to make use of it however you'd like.

And next to that is the requisite first aid room! This one is well-stocked and even has a few cots in case of more serious injuries. You'll find plenty of first aid kits, painkillers, and other various medical supplies, though nothing that will allow you to perform home surgery or anything of the sort. Hopefully you don't need to do that, though?

Finally, the last large room is one that a lot of love and care has been put into - an entertainment room! There's a large screen TV mounted on the wall, with many couches and plush chairs. You'll find that you've access to any and all modern day media you could find on a TV, from streaming services (who is paying for these, anyway?) and knock-off YouTube, to your favorite anime and even Twitch. It seems that our three allies have quite the varied interests, given their search history and "previously watched" shows and movies. There's enough seating in here for everyone, so why not have a movie night?

Oh, and you'll find the kitchen on the ground floor behind Tails' workshop is suitable for all your needs - it's not particularly well-furnished, as your pals here aren't exactly master chefs, but you're always welcome to talk to Tails about obtaining something more for the kitchen or any room in the warehouse.

All of the items you had on you at your canon point can be found in one of the storerooms as well. This includes weapons, though anything magical will unfortunately not work properly. Please ask me about anything gamebreaking!

THE CITY

Chicago itself is exactly what you'd expect of a typical American city. Well, apart from the robots patrolling and the lifeless people going about their days endlessly, that is. Anything you'd want to find in a city, you can find here! But be mindful - those robots can and will notice you, unlike the people. Most robots will engage in combat on sight, as you're someone unfamiliar and could possibly pose a threat, but some will try to flee - you probably don't want them getting away and reporting sightings of an unfamiliar person!

While the city may have undergone some major changes in its population, the infrastructure is about what you'd expect. The people clean and maintain everything just as they always have, leaving it to almost seem as though everything's fine... were it not for the construction. Unlike most construction sites, these are clearly being maintained and built by the robots - there are buildings that have been completely taken over by Eggman's white chrome finish, leaving to odd sights of mish-mashed buildings and structures that are half-advanced technology, half-old school building materials. Though it may look like a normal city at first glance, it would seem that Eggman is quite literally transforming everything into his very image. You'll even find a statue in a local park that has been replaced with an Eggman statue.

Sadly, it seems as though the people are not the only ones trapped under Eggman's thumb. Animals - be they pets or wild ones - also go about their usual business, with absolutely none of their usual livelihood. You won't see many people playing at the dog park, just passing through taking their dog on a needed walk and returning home. Squirrels and birds likewise carry on as if nothing is wrong, even if they're perched on something that is clearly Eggman's technology rather than a proper tree. Which yes, means that even some of the trees are being taken over by Eggman's chroma, transforming the very living world around you as well.

Though businesses are still running as usual, the people aren't exactly in any state of mind to notice if you steal something from them - as long as you're careful about it, anyway. While security cameras and the like may still exist, it doesn't seem like anyone's checking them. In fact, it seems like no one's committing crimes either, as the city is remarkably peaceful at all times of the day or night.

SHARDS

You may feel as though you have more control of your powers this week... or you may not. Regardless, things are still prone to going haywire, which could pose a problem if you get into a fight with a robot. Tails has asked you very nicely not to hurt any of the people, so maybe lead the robots somewhere that won't risk causing injury? Or don't, I'm not your mom.

Starting this week, you may attempt to use your shards together with someone you have a strong relationship with, good or bad. Once this has been used for the first time, a page will be opened to explain the mechanic. Regardless, that's going to take even more work than mastering your own power... so perhaps fighting those robots isn't a bad idea after all.

And you do want to fight those robots - Tails has warned you that the robots are searching for the rebels' base. You don't want to let a robot escape to bring information about you and possibly the base back to Eggman, do you? Should you let a robot escape, let me know.

TAILS' TASKS

For those of you willing to help - or if you're just particularly bored - Tails will offer some tasks for you all to help around the base. He can always use help with organizing and gathering supplies, keeping the base clean and in good condition, or even keeping track of the security cameras and communications networks. He'll gladly teach anyone who would like to learn technology as well!

For more specific tasks, this week he will grant you a small, rectangular box with an antennae on top. It's kind of cutesy, but it has a radar function built in and it is tracking some kind of signature. Tails says that it's tracking the Chaos Emeralds, and that some sort of Chaos Energy was detected not too far from the city about a week ago, when Knuckles vanished.

Your mission - should you choose to accept it - is to see if you can find this Chaos Energy reading and determine the direction it's coming from. You are to go in pairs, but you are not to try to track the readings to the source, just determine where they're located and what direction they lead to. Of course, nothing's stopping you from going off on a wild adventure if you really want to...

ENEMIES

This week's enemies are Badniks, Eggman's robots. Specifically, you'll find yourself facing the Badnik Surveillance Unit, the Badnik Drones, and the Badnik Transformer Model B33.

Badnik Surveillance Units are primarily made for reconnaissance. They can be found flying overhead, observing the people go about their lives and following scheduled flight paths and patterns to ensure every inch of the city is being observed. Well, mostly. You can find some back alleys and hidden spots here and there, and these Badniks usually won't go into buildings or out into the woods. They will immediately try to flee upon spotting you. They're easy to take down, though a bit more durable than one would expect, given Eggman's designs. If cornered, they are capable of shooting a simple laser beam that will hurt and possibly leave a burn.

Badnik Drones are the most common combat robot you will find. Small chrome white orbs with red eyes, they are capable of scanning and detecting abnormalities. They are not quite as common as the Badnik Surveillance Units, but you'll still spot several of them floating through the city at any given point in time. Unlike the Badnik Surveillance Units, these come ready for combat. They can fire lasers as well as shoot small homing missiles. The homing missiles thankfully aren't very fast and can be outrun or otherwise blocked, but they pack a punch if they do hit! These robots will stand their ground and fight if they spot you, but they will call for backup - if you aren't fast enough, you'll find yourself facing many of them!

The Badnik Transformer Model B33, more affectionately called Buzz Bombers by Tails and friends, is... well, it looks like a bee. A hornet, rather, as that stinger is actually a precision laser that moves fast. These robots typically look like Badnik Drones, but are capable of shifting and uncoiling themselves to become the B33 units. They are fast, they hit hard, and they are relentless, pursuing you nonstop until they've been destroyed. They will not call for backup, which is possibly the only saving grace about fighting them. Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell if a Badnik is a Drone or a B33 until you're actually in combat - and by then it may be(e) too late.

the city;

[ If there's a place outside, what else is there to do but explore it properly? The blond will be doing something similar throughout the entirety of the week, though they don't really care to always necessarily avoid trouble. They can very well handle themselves, after all.

Though, today is essentially a different story entirely in regards to running into troubles. Chicago isn't exactly the type of place devoid of peaceful areas. Well, there might be one less now that Void Archives has come along, and spotted who they happen to in the first place. ]

...Oh? What do we have here?

You have the expression of someone who may be reminiscing something interesting. Am I right?
is2g: (pic#17535353)

[personal profile] is2g 2025-01-21 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[ there goes the whole neighborhood.

given how things have gone so far between the two of them, wolfwood shouldn't be too surprise to hear their voice while he's having a moment. the duality of having plenty of places that he could be and yet nowhere at the same time... regardless, wolfwood will let out a long exhale before looking over towards void archives.
]

Ya got a thing about bein' right all the time?

[ he doesn't know if it's a verbal tick of theirs's or what, but it is something that wolfwood's picked up on. this also may or may not double as wolfwood refusing to validate them. ]

It's hardly reminiscin' if it's about somethin' that's never happened before. [ or at least that's how he views it. gunsmoke didn't have water like this—life like this. ] I'm just lookin'.
divinevoid: (🟨 FASCINATION)

[ They let out a chuckle as they step closer and then pause, as if trying to think on something - then, they decide to plop themselves down inelegantly nearby with no finesse whatsoever. It's still quiet and serene enough that they detected no current hostiles in regards to patrols. ]

At times, I am used to being correct on many levels. [ Spoken so very cheerfull. ] Though, sometimes it is quite liberating to be surprised. Perhaps my true reply would count as "yes and no", then? In which case, it's an answer that has multiple facets.

[ Of which they believe they're delivering honestly, which either might be more frustratingly, or...it is in line with the same as usual. The commentary brought on by Wolfwood forces them to take pause once again, trying to reach a singular conclusion to guess at. However, they can't; too many possibilities. ]

...What do you mean, anyway? By 'something that's never happened before'...?
is2g: (pic#17535350)

[personal profile] is2g 2025-01-21 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ TCH.

and as much as wolfwood would complain about them taking near him without asking, he didn't expect that was something that they'd do so he says nothing. interesting. wolfwood had the impression that they wouldn't do something as ordinary as sit on the ground. though more on brand is their answer to his.
]

'nd I'm not surprised to hear that ya hardly find yerself surprised.

[ though there were a few times that wolfwood surprised them, weren't there? ...now there's a thought that ages him a few years. regardless wolfwood takes a drag of his cigarette before continuing. ]

That's a "river", right? [ said plainly as he looks back to the water. (god let this be a river....it has to be right???) ] I've never seen a river before we arrived here. Maybe my understandin' of the word is different than yer's, but I can't reminisce on memories I haven't made.
divinevoid: (🟨 LISTEN)

[personal profile] divinevoid 2025-01-21 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You do sound so very adequately prepared!

[ They apparently do give him that with a light tease, though...yes, there have been times Wolfwood has surprised them. They figured the man might have even brought it up or considered it. But, he doesn't - and the reason for that becomes clear.

Because he instead asks about the river. Which, well, they're not anticipating that either. It makes them think back to their conversation back at the meeting when the topic of the state of the place came up. ]

Even I can't say you're wrong on either count. In fact, you're on a roll. But, if it isn't reminisce, then it must be wonder, no?

About how extraordinary the sight of a splendid body of water is before your very eyes. I can only assume it must be an unusual sight where you're from.

[ But, they don't think it changes this being a fact, though. ]
is2g: (pic#17535338)

[personal profile] is2g 2025-01-22 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Things would be grim for me if I wasn't. [ even if his words are full of sarcasm, he makes sure to clarify. he's not that paranoid here. ] Just speakin' from past experiences.

[ "extraordinary...sight of splendid body of water... yeah. not the words he'd use but they're appropriate ones for the situation. ]

It's a stuff of history books. Stories of a place far, far from home. [ his voice loses the snarkiness and takes a more wistful tone. wolfwood taking another drag before chuckling. ] My planet doesn't have things like water—if we want that stuff then we had to get it from the "god-like beings". Food, water, power...

[ wolfwood's sure that they remember the first conversation that they had when they met. he hadn't been so transparent back then as he's somewhat forced to now. humans are so great at exploiting them—using them until there is nothing else. perhaps this will give them a bit more context as to why that being would have eliminated all of humans. ]

Humanity wouldn't been able to survive without them.
divinevoid: (🟨 ❓)

[personal profile] divinevoid 2025-01-22 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
I can only imagine the weight of said experiences. Wherever would you be without them, hm~?

[ But, there's the chuckle; one that sounds a tad different than the ones previous. Their brows furrow for a moment as they notice the shift in tone as Wolfwood outlines the situation back home more in more strokes. It paints an even more dismal situation - one they doubt they could have figured with the bit of information they had before.

A world with humans without water.

To sum it up succinctly, Wolfwood's world sounds like it'd be a nightmare to any normal human. Yet, they wonder if he hates it as the tone sounds kind of nostalgic. Although right alongside that is...the mention of those god-like beings. ]

I do wonder if your planet was always like that.

...How would you all go about obtaining those things? If such god-like beings exist, they wouldn't exactly be very willing to necessarily pass it along for free, would they?

[ It sounds like the exact kind of thing that should facilitate a sort of trade. Though, they doubt it was something so simple and clean. ]
is2g: (pic#17535345)

[personal profile] is2g 2025-01-22 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ dead. the answer is dead but wolfwood doesn't give it and instead favors the topic of their conversation that's the meat of the matter. he offers a shrug before speaking. ]

Beats me. As far as anyone has ever known, it's been just one large desert.

[ and given the people who first "settled" the planet, wolfwood would have assumed that they would have tried to find water or anything to sustain life before resulting to what they did. or, at least, deciding that it was the only way that things could be accomplished. ]

But, to answer ya question, they do if ya make them. [ a humorless laugh as wolfwood takes out the cigarette from his mouth and rubs out the embers on the pavement next to him. he's going to light up another one, but not just yet. ] It's probably never strictly through brute force, but we have them to produce whatever we ask for. Some of them are even more specialized to provide for one thing over another.

Sometimes people will thank them for what they provide. Other times people won't bother to spend a single thought on it.

[ as plainly as wolfwood's words were, there is an underlying trace of frustration and anger. if it's directed at the overall situation or at the cruelty of humanity, it's unclear. but as wolfwood rightly stated, humans are great at exploiting things until they're no longer of any use to them. ]
divinevoid: (🟨 CONSIDER)

[personal profile] divinevoid 2025-01-22 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ They would have figured that the balance may have gone in the other way entirely, but Wolfwood makes it clear that isn't the case. Rather, somehow humans are the ones who have turned the tables - though, perhaps that isn't surprising. Such creatures may be weak, though a weakness can become a strength, and a strength, a weakness. They know and understand this.

The implications are clear as everything is now coming together, and they're watching him as he's abut to light a second cig. Quick, and unhealthy; even if expected, given the topic. ]

Ah, I see...those fellow humans in your world became quite enamored with their control over such beings. Then, they usually used such beings for their own ends, until they were to be thrown away. As that man you mentioned had said, yes?

[ The pieces connect right in front of them. They hear the anger lurking in Wolfwood's tone; the man doesn't need to be so sympathetic to those people, does he? But, he is. Evidently, Wolfwood never liked the man either, and they're certain by the way he speaks; is it the injustice of it that concerns him? Or was he close to another one of those people...? ]

No matter where humans are, there are always those who act like this. [ They let out a chuckle of their own. ] Locking or throwing away whatever they no longer need without a singular care; whatever suits them well. Yet, they persist. Such is the nature of them.

...Wolfwood, what makes you still believe humanity is worth fighting for when you see and know such cruelties? Your own humanity? Survival?
is2g: (pic#17647942)

[personal profile] is2g 2025-01-22 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ wolfwood simply nods at their first question even if feels like a rhetorical question. they both knew who was wolfwood talking about originally and how he fit into this picture. he'll continue to say nothing as he listens to them, opting to stare into the water and watch the river lap against the edges of the walkway.

it's only when they ask him why wolfwood still cares does he really react. first with a laugh darkly as he digs through his blazer's pocket for a fresh cigarette. why did wolfwood care? why should he care? (he hates how he cares.)
]

Have you ever gotten to know someone whose beliefs are so detached from reality that they have to be insane? So messed up in the head that no matter what anyone says they'll stick to those crazy ideals—even if it'll kill them.

[ it's largely a rhetorical question but he is curious to know if they've ever met anyone like this in their life. ]

There's an idiot that believes in humanity despite seein' the ugliest parts of it and how rotten it can be. He believes that it's worth saving—that people are still good.

[ no matter how often wolfwood will try to tell him otherwise. try to force some sense into that head of his. no matter how many times he'll find himself in any combination of protecting, saving, or doing the ugly work for him just so that he can hold onto those ideals a little bit longer.

it's not until wolfwood lights up again and takes his first drag of his newest smoke does he finish. his body sagging as he leans forward to rest his elbows on his knees.
]

We don't see things eye-to-eye on a lot of things but when he says that humanity's worth savin', I'm stupid enough to believe him.
divinevoid: (🟨 REPORT)

[personal profile] divinevoid 2025-01-22 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
This man is truly your lynchpin to the belief that there is something worth in fighting for humanity, hm? Ah, I can only imagine how difficult keeping him in one piece may be~

...But, how about I sate your curiosity out of the kindness of my heart? I can tell what you wish to desperately know, after all.

I know of two. How lucky for you. One was delusional and sacrificed the wellbeing of all those around him to satisfy his desires. He cared for little else...and destroyed the lives of many in various ways without a shred of remorse.

[ There is no fondness in this tone as they speak about this person, but they see no reason not to tell Wolfwood as it is. As for the second, their tone settles around an attempt at masking honest exasperation that's intermingled with their usual light manner of speaking. ]

As for the other man, he is so foolishly committed to holding steadfast to the faith that the humans he saves are worth his consideration time and time again. No matter what they've done to him. Even when at times they wished for him to hurry to sacrifice himself, and gave no thanks for his actions - for him saving the world. For saving them. Ironic, since he isn't wholly human himself.

His faith in others is unshakeable. His willingness to unwaveringly lend kindness and place himself last...foolish.

[ They remember "implying" to that man that such kindness would kill him. They chuckle with something resembling amusement and shake their head, though. One might say it's ironic they're here instead of that self-sacrificial Herrscher, but they will not accept it is fate that this happened. ]

To that end, you may call yourself stupid enough to believe this friend of yours, but were I to criticize you on that subject specifically, inevitably I'd have to judge myself. And, you see Wolfwood, that just won't do!

There are other subjects I can very well find to judge you with instead. That would prove to be far more satisfactory.

[ ...oh.

oh.

everything has clicked into place and makes sense to him now. he had misunderstood void archives when they first spoke; isn't it great that he has gotten a chance to better understand them? (maybe he should apologize? no—absolutely not.) wolfwood isn't sure who else has gotten this "privilege" to know this much about them, but he sort of wishes that he isn't alone in this. ...shame that wolfwood isn't the type to go about gossiping about stories that aren't his to tell.

(do they also see hear that person's voice before they do something, too?)

worse of all of this is that wolfwood's able to name that feeling that bothered him so much. he thought it felt familiar; a discomfort that has been with him for as long as he's ever been able to properly recognize it. isn't that great for him? wolfwood hates it, and there'll be no satisfaction when he finally gives in and decks them in the face.

honestly there's a lot that void archives is telling him right now that makes wolfwood want to throw them into the river and hope that they don't know how to swim. he doesn't, though, (un)fortunately for everyone involved. the temptation to correct them and say that he never used the word "friend" in all of that but how fair would that be? instead, wolfwood lets the embers burn down the cigarette in his mouth and finds himself lowering his head even further between his legs as he laughs.
]

What are the odds of that, huh?

[ because what else is there to be said? he'll sit up just enough to look at them over his shoulder. ]

So, what are these other aspects of me that ya'd judge me for? For all of the time yer willin' to spend time with me, I was under the impression that yer were fond of my winnin' personality.

[ Is the reaction a sort of realization for Wolfwood? Good. They can be smug about it, even if they can't quite follow all that he is thinking...though, actually, the reaction and words do indeed say enough. As such, they will chuckle brightly, quite satisfied with themselves. ]

Oh? Quite a guess from you, isn't it? But, I shall not lie. Your dour and straightforward nature at times makes for a good deal of quality entertainment. Yet, I do have some terrible news for you, Wolfwood.

You are nowhere near perfect. Yes, you do need a lot of inner work, and in some cases, outer work, in order to be considered above reproach.

[ A pause on Void Archives' part, intentionally as they pass him a bright smile (derogatory) as the other is looking over at them. What is it for? Perhaps they have no criticism to offer? Is it for suspense (yes)? Their voice is completely playful, not reaching anywhere near severity as they speak the rest... ]

...Such as your terrible smoking habit. I know normal humans who have an abnormally high nicotine intake will obtain an inevitable and unfortunate substandard health. The kind that brings alongside a myriad side effects that shall becoming quite troubling at some point in life.

Then there is the fact you clearly are usually in a constant state of denial in the moments where I can say that I've claimed the potential "right" side of a deduction. That isn't very 'winning' of you, is it?

But, don't worry, I will grant some mercy and leave it at that for now. There is no need to show gratitude, but I won't be surprised if you do.

[ LORD DOES THIS CUBE KNOW HOW TO JUST SAY ONE THING TOO MUCH.

the funniest part of all of this is the fact that wolfwood under any other circumstances, would have been fine with the biting remark. he did ask for it; there is not a world where wolfwood would ever look at himself and think that he was perfect. no, far from it, but it's just the fact that they kept talking. the smugness. (wolfwood takes it back, he'd love to punch them in the face and would get satisfaction from it.)

was wolfwood aware of this smoking problem? oh, absolutely. did it bother him if people complained about it? nope. fuck them. his life, his body, his to do whatever he damn well pleases with it. there was only so many days that he could call his own and how he wanted to spend them shouldn't be anyone's concern. then this calling him out on his "constant state of denial"? honestly, what's new? there's plenty that wolfwood willfully ignores and that alone could have been fine but—

"That isn't very 'winning' of you, is it?" ... .... "There's no need to show gratitude..."

wolfwood does not claim to be a good man, nor would he earnestly ever think that he could be. wolfwood does, however, concede that he some of his actions could be seen as petty. ...it's just a shame that his will to not do this moments earlier has already fallen into shambles.

[ with little pretense, wolfwood will stand up from where he had been sitting and move closer to void archives. he doesn't know if they're smart enough to know what's coming and quite frankly wolfwood has played plenty nice already. it's now his turn to offer up a pleasant smile (warning) to them before he places a hand on their shoulder. there's no extra pressure and it could almost be seen as a friendly gesture. a pat on the shoulder for doing a good job!

you know, if you ignore the fact that it's only moments later does wolfwood's hand quickly move to grab a fist full of fabric as he gets them by the collar of their shirt(?). just where wolfwood plans on going with this should be clear enough as he drags them close enough to the water's edge before using his entire body weight to hurl them into the river. sure, his strength is nowhere near what it was, but it's not like the years of training beaten into him vanished along with that strength.
]

May God be with you.

[ into the water you go, cube!!!! if there's any regret wolfwood feels, it's towards the fact that the river didn't need to be disturbed this way. ...also if this ends up with them drawing unwanted attention. [ The worst thing about the entire scenario is that Void Archives certainly figures it is entirely possible for Wolfwood to try to shove them into the river, but they are perfectly content to look relaxed the entire time even in the face of the man's elongated silence. Even when he rises up to his feet the way he does - they are intelligent enough to know that they're bound to have gotten some kind of reaction, after all. Though do they think they'll get away without retribution? Yes, they figure that there's a high chance that they would.

After all, was anything wrong in what they've said? It's objectively correct. What right does Wolfwood have to complain about it?

So, that's where we are now. Where the hand is laid upon their shoulder in a nice gesture, though they have the nerve to chuckle because they suspect that Wolfwood is going to say something then. Wouldn't that be the right moment?

Except that isn't the case. That isn't it at all. Wolfwood will also discover that Void Archives is kind of on the heavier side, but it's nothing some well-timed momentum can be used to do the job. Anyway, they tumble gracelessly into the river with a loud splash.

...That should be the end of it.

Right...? ]

[ Wouldn't it be nice if it were so?

But right as the blond emerges from the water, their hand snaps out quickly - faster than most people could manage after being soaked, perhaps - and latches right onto one of Wolfwood's ankles, pulling him with quite a bit a strength. They won't stop either.

Not until he's with them in this hell. ]

How about you join me in this land of paradise, Father Wolfwood~?

[ They say, grin sharp and unrepentant. Soaking wet and still up to no good. ]

[ (naru voice) finally. my chance to kill ww!!
(lum voice) no.

but for real, wolfwood should have seen this coming and, on some level, probably does see it coming. the real issue comes from the matter of what he can do in response of what he senses is coming because, if anyone bothers to remember, wolfwood has not experienced or seen a large body of water before here. while he has entertained the idea of trying to "swim", the circumstances would be controlled and not... this. not being dragged in by his ankle.

obviously wolfwood knows what water feels like and so the cool temperature doesn't bother him so much as the fact that his feet don't immediately touch anything. (he should probably worry about what else is in the water but, remember, the man has never seen large bodies of water. the fuck you mean that there's stuff that grows in it??) the sensation is unsettling and foreign. he'll kick and thrash about despite his mind knowing he needs to remain calm, however, the disconnect between what he knows he needs to do and what he is doing being strong.

hope void archives was expecting this? also expecting to be hit in the face or kicked in some way if they remain too close to wolfwood (which might be a good idea if we want to keep him alive (derogatory)) as he fights against his instincts.

they are making a scene. it is impossible to imagine that they are not making a scene.

[ Let it be known if anyone asked Void Archives how this happened they would simply say that Wolfwood started it.

Nevermind that they are well over thousands of years old. In any case, they can't imagine that the man himself is bound to be happy about this, but he wrought this. Anyway, speaking of reminders, Wolfwood flailing around is one that the man certainly doesn't know how to swim. Which, you know, makes sense, given what he told them...

...

Also, let's be real, folks, they get smacked in the head at least a couple of times because they're not going to just let the man die. Too bad they can't float around in the water and laugh because he's struggling, though; they'll save it for later. ]

You really do need to stop flailing around so much. You'll end up worse off.

Here, let me help you...

[ This is definitely them making a scene. It will be fortunate if they don't run afoul of one of those creations. Anyway, they will do their best to help guide Wolfwood and themselves back onto edge of the river. And you know, back onto dry land.

If they get hit a few more times, well, that is just karma. Probably. ]

Easy does it, priest. Let this be a lesson that you shouldn't go around just throwing anyone, hm?

[ here they are, two adults (citation needed) who would be passing the blame back and forth between one another about whose fault it would have been should they be caught for their actions in the same fashion as children.

but truly for how smart void archives holds themselves to be, how could they missed the all too obvious fact that wolfwood wouldn't have been able to swim. jokes on them!! and for a split second wolfwood wants to refuse the help but the fear of having nothing at his feet is unsettling enough that he'll begrudgingly accept it.

what a lovely image these two are making.
]

One of these days, I'm gonna fuckin' kill ya. [ they are totally going to get a few more snacks to the face. are they by accident? whose to say but it's going to happen as wolfwood finally comes in contact with something solid and rooted to hold onto. ] Ya hear me, ya long-winded ramblin' idiot?!

[ wolfwood could probably come off as intimidating if he wasn't sopping wet and clinging onto the edge while simultaneously trying to crawl back up the steps like a half-drown cat. hissing and everything. oh how very scary he is. wolfwood doesn't need anyone to tell him how ridiculous he looks because he can probably imagine it.

and perhaps he should thank void archives for saving him? listen to them chiding him about lessons learned? hm. that might have happened if they weren't the reason why it happened in the first place. if there's any lesson to be learned then wolfwood needs to put more distance between them the next time he does this.

[ They would have come up with the most stupid-ass excuse if Wolfwood asks them why they didn't think of it being a clear fact the man wouldn't be able to swim or double-down...so yeah, definitely citation needed for being an 'adult' in this situation as well. They're doing so well here, fam. ]

Oh, I'm sure. You will be flailing like this at that very same time, won't you? What an amusing sight that would be! [ They won't complain about getting a few hits, though maybe it's through sheer will, rather than anything else. ] You'll be yelling like an old man at the clouds and telling me to die already, except I will first die from laughter at the hilarious picture before you get to kill me!

[ Oh, wait. What's that sound?

Are they laughing now? Yes, they are. They're absolutely laughing. Is it because Wolfwood looks like a wet cat? Mewbye.

At least they have enough sense not to be like 'you should thank me', because they sure as hell know they aren't going to be getting an expression of gratitude after all of that. Though, let it be known that they do consider it.

If there is a next time, though, they would simply splash water at him or something...that does seem safer. Not that they will say that. Anyways, they heft themselves back on top of the shore, movements a bit quicker. ]

[ proud of them. real proud of the two of them here. especially as i have the extremely belated realization that i could have written wolfwood being ""sexy"" with how he was drenched but absolutely went the opposite direction of pathetic wet cat without a second thought.

but referring to wolfwood as an angry wet cat is the only appropriate evaluation here as he growls at void archives in response to them laughing at him. if looks could kill, wolfwood would have chewed off one of their arms by now. he also has a fleeting thought of shoving them back into the river—only with something heavy attached to them so that they'll have a bit harder time swimming back to the surface. the only thing that stops him is the lack of the means of accomplishing that.

this is absolutely what tails meant when he told them to get along, right? right.
]

If ya think that laughin' yerself to the grave will save ya then think again. [ wolfwood shakes his head free of some water not caring who he hits. ] I'll drag yer sorry ass back from the dead before puttin' you back into the ground myself. I'm not gonna give ya that satisfaction.

There'll be much less flailin', too. [ wolfwood peels his blazer from his person and throw it onto the ground with a wet slap. if anyone bothered to question how much care wolfwood put into his clothing, well, here you go. he'll still be grumbling as he wrings the water from his shirt. ] Ya can count on it.

[ See, embracing the idea of pathetic wet cat was being totally real. You can say it was a plot worthy of a true meowstermind.

But, hey, listen, if Wolfwood truly wants to try a murder attempt on Void Archives one day, he is fully within his rights! It'd be a true culmination of their terrible bond; or it will make Tails pretty aggrieved. That too. Even if it would amuse Void Archives...

Though, Wolfwood shaking his head gives them an idea to do the same. Their hair is far longer than Wolfwood's and probably also sprinkling water in the nearby vicinity. Though, after that, they try to wring the water out of their hair. ]

The intensity of your anger burns with the strength of a thousand suns. Should I be honored? Though, are you not a priest? "Thou shalt not kill"...I wonder if you are familiar with that. Then again, when the Crusades and whatnot occurred that Commandment tended to be ignored...

[ They mumble the rest more as an aside, moving to take off their cape-thing, and wring out the water from that. They don't really care about getting sick; not necessary with their kind of body, but being waterlogged is inconvenient. So, they next take off the jacket and begin to wring that out too. But, they have two layers (or three) under that too...this is going to take awhile. ]

I think I shall still count on you flailing around like you did today. You can surprise me and try to prove me wrong if the time comes~
