If you're not up by 7AM, you'll be rather rudely woken by Knuckles or Sonic pounding on your door and all but dragging you out to Tails' workshop. Once everyone's assembled, the fox speaks up, looking nervous.
"I've found something really worrying on our radars. We're picking up Chaos Energy - energy that should only come from the Chaos Emeralds or the Master Emerald. Considering that Eggman has them..."
"The last time this happened, I went to investigate the signal and was captured. It was a trap. We must be better prepared this time."
"So we're coming with you guys. Tails will stay here to keep an eye on things, but Knuckles and I are coming along too."
"Considering that what we're picking up is much larger than the first signal I sent Knuckles to look for... I think we're going to need all of you. I really hope it isn't Eggman, but you guys should be prepared for a fight anyway."
With that information out of the way, it won't take you long to head through the city and locate the source of the disturbance. Thankfully, it isn't Eggman's massive robot - that still stands unmoving on the horizon - but less thankfully, it's quite a few of those smaller robots.
You'll see plenty of the familiar ones - Eggman's white chrome finish with their glowing red eyes - though they seem more focused on wanton destruction of the city than on the patrol routes they should be following. There are several tanks taking aim at various buildings, drones shooting lasers through windows, and so on.
But there are also three very unfamiliar foes among the chaos.
The first is a robot in blue and silver, with spikes resembling quills and blazing fast speed that makes it hard to keep tabs on where it is and where it's going. It can curl up into a ball and launch itself at high speeds, which it definitely just did, considering it sent itself into a building and is now out of sight. Great!
The second is another robot in bright red, looking like a certain echidna pal of yours. This one doesn't bother with speed and instead focuses on power, smashing its claws into the ground and breaking pavement easily, hurling it afterwards towards one of those building as if it weighs nothing.
The third is perhaps the strangest, though. It isn't a robot, but instead a plush doll, roughly around the size of your friendly neighborhood tech guy. Unlike the other two, this one hangs in the back, doing absolutely nothing to aid in the chaos and instead hovering above the ground still and lifeless. In the center of its forehead is a large teal gemstone.
For their parts, Sonic and Knuckles are taken aback by this - and a quick conversation with Tails confirms that the three of them have never seen these robots before or have any idea why they've randomly started attacking the city. They're just as confused as you are, but the Chaos Energy seems to be coming from these three unfamiliar foes.
A voice cuts through the chaos, seemingly coming from the still doll in the back. "I see our guests have finally arrived. You've kept me waiting. All forces - destroy them! Keep the hedgehog alive and bring him back to the base."
Considering the absolute confusion on the faces of Knuckles and Sonic... this isn't Eggman's voice. It is a masculine voice - haughty and cold - but not the one anyone was expecting, apparently.
"O...kay, well if they want me, I'll try to keep 'em occupied! Beat 'em into scrap!"
[You've just arrived, everything's in some state of chaos, and Sonic Team has no idea what's going on. This is for your general non-battle thread needs! I will not be NPCing - as our colorful friends are a bit busy talking amongst themselves - but feel free to have your characters do whatever you'd like before the battle, be that speculating on what's going on, forming a battle plan, rescuing civilians, trying to put out whatever fires these bots have caused, whatever! Feel free to make use of this top level for any and all non-battle interactions you'd like to have.]
[Alright, well. This is a lovely sight to walk on into, to say the least. Dorothy's already trying to analyze the situation, to see what she can glean from watching these robots work, and already she's not liking this.
At the very least, thankfully, the water manipulator can put out some of those fires happening right now.]
...We're going to need to think of a plan of attack here. We absolutely need to find a way to stop that blue one from moving about so much, at minimum.
[ He's here to help. While also having a skateboard again. The kickflips worked out the first time so surely...SURELY....THEY GOTTA WORK OUT AGAIN RIGHT... ]
Prrroooobably not. I mean, we had explosions both times we fought these robot things, so we should be more careful this time. Especially given how these ones are designed...
That depends on how much it relies on it's legs for it's speed, I think. It's certainly worth considering, but it's far more likely that it has a means for that speed without it's legs.
Indeed, that sounds like a good plan. Our combative forces can distract the robots and focus on disabling them, while they focus on rescuing everyone from the chaos.
[He's fast and all, but he's no match for the speed of that thing.]
With it movin' around like that, we can't even shoot it. We could try chasin' it into a corner, but we don't know what kind of surprises it's got up its sleeves.
If speed and moving all the time is what blue machine does best then having something it can not break through will be best. Use speed against it. Probably.
[Not that he has the slightest idea how to do that. He's no fighter, so...good luck to you all, whatever plan you get up to, hah]
[Turo arrives quiet and standing a little apart from the others. Truth be told, he doesn't particularly want to be here. He's not built for fighting this way, he doesn't have any useful powers as far as he's been able to tell, and he isn't really a part of this group. One or two of them have been kind enough, but - well, he's not a part of any group, why would that be different here?
Still, he ought to make himself useful somehow. There might be people trapped in some of these buildings - he'll just try to slip off and go check.]
That, or we could attempt to provoke it into a trap.
[Trust her, Dorothy doesn't like the idea of facing something with so much speed either and she doesn't have any good plans, but...]
But you're right; that thing could have plenty of tricks up it's sleeve. The only thing I can think of is attempting to get it to aim at someone who already has an attack prepared, but I am unsure of how to truly go about it...
[ hello fellow non-combatant who is also feeling a little bit useless at the moment since he also does not have any combat related powers and prefers to be in the background rather than up close and personal fighting robots-- ]
[ so he's slipping off together with turo to search for any civilians in trouble. ]
This way. [ a gesture. ] We should evacuate anyone before the buildings get in the line of fire.
[ Well. More has been listening to everyone discussing, with an expression that mostly just screams 'yikes, what the fuck' - but he has nothing to contribute to the planning, and thus he's not so wrapped up that he wouldn't notice Turo slipping off. ]
[Oh, Ashley...Dorothy looks at her briefly, pausing and considering for a moment.]
...That would work, I believe. Are you certain you'll be okay with doing that?
[It isn't said bitchily at least; it's outright said out of concern for Ashley, knowing (or at least assuming) how the nature of her power works. If those robots realize what she's doing, they'll surely aim at her, and that's...]
